GGU-CANTILEVER: Step 3: Define load on cantilever wall

From the "Editor 1" menu select "Wall (general)".

In the dialog box, define the size of any existing "Vertical load" or "Horizontal load" acting on the top of the wall. When using the partial safety factor concept, the loads are entered separately as "Permanent(g)" and "Changeable(q)" loads. Define the location of the vertical load from the top right edge of the cantilever wall using the "x [m]" value. It is also possible to define a moment acting on the wall and an additional load on the toe.

Input of a "Footing length" influences bearing capacity failure and settlement analyses only.

Enter the concrete values in the lower section of the dialog box. "Young's mod." designates the Young's modulus of the concrete. This value is required for the structural analysis of the cantilever wall.

You can use a friction spur to increase the passive earth pressure and thus increase the sliding safety. With high walls, the active earth pressure is often greater than the passive earth pressure. The effect is then reversed.
