GGU-UNDERPIN: "Passive earth pressure" menu item

You can specify passive earth pressure preferences using this dialog box:

In the upper group box you specify the type of passive earth pressure calculation. If the "Culmann" check box is activated the passive earth pressure is calculated after Culmann. The calculations use a slice method with straight slip surfaces.

According to R 14 and R 19 of the EAB, the location of the earth pressure resultant for a free earth support can, under certain conditions, be adopted higher than for classical earth pressure theory. If you analyse using the global safety factors, specify the necessary settings in the central section of the dialog box. The value of the safety factor for the passive earth pressure can also be specified here.

If you have selected partial safety factors, enter the partial factor for passive earth pressure in the dialog box and the calibration factor in accordance with the information in DIN 1054:2005/EC 7.

When you calculate intermediate construction phases large embedment depths may result, with large passive earth pressures for comparably small active earth pressures. This allows the location of the pressure line in the lower section of the wall to be displaced far to the earth side and even to leave the kernel width. In such situations you can limit the passive earth pressure to a user-defined value in the "Special preferences" group box and thus suppress the displacement of the pressure line.
